Caring Kitchen invited teens into the kitchen and garden this summer with two summer programs. Both programs filled up quickly and brought new, enthusiastic faces to the kitchen.
The teens spent Mondays in the garden at Mendocino College harvesting for Caring Kitchen's weekly meal bags, planting, seeding, and of course, weeding! April prepared "mystery juices", containing 4 or 5 fresh fruits and/or vegetables that the teens were tasked with guessing. They all were able to correctly guess more quickly as the sessions progressed.
Tuesdays were spent in the kitchen, learning knife skills with April and prepping food for Thursday meal bags. There were always delicious dishes to taste and the teens enthusiastically tried foods that were new to many of them.
Both groups also spent a morning at Golden Rule Gardens, where farmers Jes, Keith, Eric and Francisco gave inspiring tours of the two garden sites where much of Caring Kitchen produce comes from, thanks to generous donations from this amazing place!
