Schools of Hope
Less than 25% of Mendocino county 3rd graders are reading at or above grade level. SCHOOLS OF HOPE VOLUNTEERS ARE HELPING TO LOWER THIS PERCENTAGE!
From Kindergarten to 3rd grade children are learning to read. From fourth grade on, they are expected to read to learn. Studies show that students who are reading at a proficient level by the 3rd grade are far more successful in school. Schools of Hope has been proven successful at raising reading scores to proficient level, often after just a few months. This national reading tutoring program connects volunteers with struggling readers in grades 1st - 3rd. The success of this program depends upon volunteers willing to work one on one with students at their school.
You only need to commit 30 minutes a week during the school year (October - May) at a school near you.
We provide materials and training so you are confident as a tutor.
You can tutor more than one student and commit more time if you wish.
OUR GOAL: 90% Reading Proficiency by 2020.
