As food awareness and access increases, there’s also an increase in the need to know how to prepare fresh, local food. The Food PREP project offers regular Healthy Harvest Workshops in Ukiah and Willits designed to develop food self-reliance. The workshops help community members cook simple, healthy meals using locally grown and seasonal produce. During the workshops participants make jams, pickles, pestos, dressings, soups, vegetable entrées, and more. They also learn how to process, clean, and store produce. There’s always plenty of food and produce to take home, plus the recipes from the day are provided.
Each class is unique and based on what is available that week from the farmers. The produce used in the workshops thus far has been sourced from Covelo Organics, Fereira Forest Farms, Irene’s Garden Produce, Love Farms, Seely Farm Stand, Tequio Community Farm, Black Dog Farm, Inland Ranch Organics, Cerro Negro, Sky Hoyt Specialty Grower, Morgan Valley Produce, Cinnamon Bear Farm, Carson and Bees, Grange Farm School, Green Uprising Farm, and more.
Each workshop is just $20 to cover the cost of farmer’s produce and all other material provided. Ask about getting a special class together for your group or organization!
Who We Serve: Anyone in Mendocino and Lake Counties who wants to learn how to take advantage of each season's fruit and vegetable bounty.
