Lake County FoodCorps

Serving alongside educators, school food service staff, and other community leaders, FoodCorps service members partner with schools to put in place a nourishing environment for all students. The FoodCorps service member hosted by NCO for the 2015/16 school year is serving in the Konocti Unified School District.

Serving at no cost to the schools, FoodCorps service members help create and implement healthy school environments using a three-ingredient recipe for healthy kids:
Knowledge: food and nutrition education that gives kids the information they need to make smart choices
Engagement: hands-on activities like gardening and cooking that foster skills and pride around healthy food
Access: lunch trays filled with nutritious meals from local farms.

FoodCorps is a nationwide team of AmeriCorps leaders who connect kids to real food and help them grow up healthy. These leaders are in limited-resource communities for a year of public service where they teach hands-on lesson about food and nutrition; build and tend school gardens, teach cooking lessons, and support nutrition services staff to change what on the lunch trays to include healthy food from Lake County farms.
