Welcome
to Nokomis Head Start Child Development. We are a year round ten (10)
hour a day site with State Pre-School in the morning and Head Start in
the afternoon providing a seamless program. Our hours are 7:30 AM to 5:30
PM Monday through Thursday and 7:30 to 3:00 on Fridays. We close early
on Fridays to be able to have staff meetings and conduct ongoing training
for our staff. These trainings allow our staff to better serve the children
and families here at Nokomis.
We have two classrooms with twenty (20) children each; one (1) Teacher,
three (3) Associate Teachers and one (1) Aide.
We offer Breakfast, Lunch and Snack daily. Our menus are posted each week
and are on a six (6) week rotating bases. Each meal is prepared fresh
by our cook using all the freshest ingredients. We follow a healthy food
policy with low fat, sugar, and salt.
Our Family Support Specialist works with our families to provide support
in the areas of health, family and community partnerships, nutrition,
mental health and disability services. We also have a Site Supervisor
who is the administrator of the site and works with both the children
and the families.
We use Creative Curriculum as our curriculum model. This model is based
on developmentally appropriate practice which provides children with opportunities
to learn and practice newly acquired skills. It offers challenges just
beyond the level of their present a mastery and it takes place "in
the context of a community where children are safe and valued, where their
physical needs are met, and where they feel psychologically secure."
